Arraignment Continued For Mother Of Pit Bull Attack Survivor

Son Recovering After Losing Arm In Attack

The mother of an Aurora boy mauled by pit bulls outside his home was expected to be arraigned Friday in Centennial but the court action was continued until March 22.

Renee Muniz, 37, was charged with charged with one felony count of child abuse and three misdemeanor charges, including unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog and cruelty to animals in connection with the attack last November.

Gregg Jones, 10, was attacked by dogs at his home on Nov. 2 when he came home from school and tried to climb over the back fence to get into his house. He lost an arm in the attack and suffered other injuries. He is recovering at the home where the attack occurred and is being cared for by Muniz.

Jones' sister, Danielle Denise Carson, 22, is charged with owning a dangerous dog, and cruelty to animals in connection with the same attack.

Renee Muniz could face up to six years in prison if convicted of the felony child abuse charge. She is free on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond.
