Parker Decides Against Pit Bull Ban

Overwhelming Opposition To Ban Prompts Move

There will be no pit bull ban in Parker.

The city council voted Tuesday night against the ban on the breed.

The council room was packed with residents who voiced opposition to the breed-specific ban. In fact, only one person spoke in favor of the ban.

The council killed the pit bull ban following two hours of discussion.

"I really, believe that town council did tonight is send message to other municipalities along Front Range that there are options, alternatives to this, that have been proven to work," said R.J. O'Connor, a pit bull owner.

The council voted to form a citizen committee to look at the town's current vicious dog law to determine if it needs to be strengthened.

Councilman Jack Hilbert, who originally proposed the ban, told pit bull owners that they must police bad dog owners themselves, because if an attack does happen, the ban may be revisited by the city council.
