Firefighters are battling an active wildfire near Monument in El Paso County.The Beaver Creek Fire was originally estimated at 3 to 5 acres in size, but was later upgraded to 60 acres. The smoke plume was rising hundreds of feet into the air and is visible from Interstate 25.Video from Airtracker7 showed large flames leaping from tree to tree."It is very active. It is running and torching, " said Pike National Forest spokeswoman Barb Timock.A single-engine air tanker, helicopter, several fire engines and a United States Forest Service hand crew were fighting the fire near Mount Herman Road, southwest of Monument.No mandatory evacuations had been ordered but some residents were taking animals off their property, according to the Lt. Lari Sevene with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
