A man was shot and wounded early Tuesday morning at a downtown Denver lounge as he tried to get into the closed business, police said.

According to police, a call came in from the Funky Buddha Lounge at 776 Lincoln Street at about 4:08 a.m., reporting a possible break-in and shooting.

Police said a man was shot by someone inside the lounge as he attempted to enter it. He was rushed to nearby Denver Health Medical Center in undetermined condition.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting and said several people were inside the lounge after closing. It is not known if the people inside were employees of the bar, owners, or friends of the owners.

"It is also unclear at this time whether or not the suspects and the people inside knew each other or what the motivation was behind this incident," said Detective Virginia Lopez, of the Denver Police Department.
