ASPEN, Colo. -- The Aspen Skiing Co. sold 162 of its aging Silver Queen Gondola cars last week in just 36 hours.

The 162 cars, sold for $550 each, "went fast," according to spokesman Jeff Hanle.

One out-of-town buyer picked up 85 of the cars and a resident of Woody Creek bought 11. Two Aspen restaurants also bought a few of the gondola cars.

The new owners won't get the cars until the end of the current ski season, when Aspen replaces them with larger gondolas.

The Silver Queen Gondola takes skiers to the top of Aspen Mountain.

The ski area made $80,000 on the sale.
