Wyoming Police Seize Ecstasy Stash Worth $6 Million
135,000 Tablets Found In Israeli Man's Rental Car, Police Say
An Israeli man was arrested in Wyoming last week after a record $6 million worth of ecstasy was allegedly found in the man's rental car.
Atzon Gerby, 42, was being held in the Laramie County, Wyo., jail, facing federal charges of possessing a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The state Division of Criminal Investigation said that 147 pounds of
the drug were found in a rental car driven by Gerby.
The bust was the single largest ecstasy seizure on the nation's highways to date, DCI spokesman Steve Miller said.
Gerby was pulled over for speeding Thursday on Interstate 80 about ten miles east of Cheyenne, Wyo. A Highway Patrol trooper allegedly found 135,000 tablets of the drug concealed in duffel bags in the trunk.
Investigators said that Gerby was driving west from the New York City
area. He resides in Tarzana, California.
Officials said that at $10 to $50 per tablet, the drugs were worth anywhere from $1.3 to $6 million.
