Renee Muniz Is Free On $50,000 Bond

POSTED: 4:57 am MST December 16, 2005

The mother of a 11-year-old boy severely disfigured in a pit bull attack made her first court appearance Thursday.

Renee Muniz, 37, was charged earlier this week with one felony count of child abuse and three misdemeanor charges, including unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog and cruelty to animals.

Gregg Jones was attacked by dogs at his home on Nov. 2 when he came home from school and tried to climb over the back fence to get into his house. He lost an arm in the attack and suffered other injuries. He is recovering at the home where the attack occurred and is being cared for by Muniz.

She could face up to six years in prison if convicted of the felony child abuse charge. She is free on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond.

Her next court date is scheduled for January.

A 20-year-old sister of Jones also faces charges in the case. Danielle Carson, faces misdemeanor charges for owning two of the dogs that attacked him.
