Affidavit: Conditions In Pit Bull Attack Home Were Dirty

Gregg Jones' Sister Cited With Cruelty To Animals

There are some disturbing findings in an arrest warrant affidavit released Wednesday about a pit bull attack on a 10-year-old boy in Aurora last month.

Gregg Jones, Jr. was mauled by three dogs when he went through his back yard to get inside his house after coming home from school.

The arrest warrant affidavit for Jones' mother paints a picture of a dirty house, specifically stating that their house was in "complete shambles and disarray." Detectives said that the house was dirty and cluttered and one detective said that he could smell the strong odor of rotting garbage inside the garage.

"I've never seen the inside of the house but just judging by the back yard, I guess it doesn't really surprise me," said neighbor Jeff Anderson. "Especially in the summertime, when it gets hot, the smell comes over the fence. And it's pretty bad."

In the affidavit an Aurora detective said, "This yard was covered throughout in feces."

Another detective described the "dog room" saying, that the smell of feces and urine was overwhelming and "the overpowering smell and stench made my eyes begin to water, it was so strong."

Jones was hurt so badly that he had to have his left arm amputated and has extensive facial injuries.

"I have two kids of my own. Imagine that happened to one of them -- don't know what I would do," said Anderson.

The boy's 38-year-old mother, Renee Muniz, isn't talking to reporters. She is charged with felony charge of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and misdemeanor reckless child abuse. His adult sister, Danielle Denise Carson, will be cited for unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog and cruelty to animals.

The boy's father spoke with 7NEWS over the phone and said. "I'm for the family's interest, the kids, not for Renee."

The father was not living in the home when the attack occurred but had talked to Muniz, describing his concerns regarding the dogs, according to the affidavit.

Four pit bulls, including two of the dogs that were involved in the attack, were removed from the home and are still in Aurora's animal shelter, pending the outcome of the case. The third pit bull involved in the attack was euthanized after a police officer shot at it and wounded it.
