UPDATED: 4:13 pm MST December 6, 2005

Denver police are investigating the discovery of a body in southwest Denver.

The body was found in a drainage culvert in the 4800 block of W. Virginia Avenue and police were contacted.

It appears to be a homeless person who may have frozen to death overnight, according to police.

The victim has not yet been identified.

An emergency overflow area at the Denver Rescue Mission is providing shelter from the cold for more of the metro area's homeless population. That area holds 75 people in addition to the 200 beds already available at the Rescue Mission, getting some 275 people inside and out of the cold.
