Transcript From Exclusive Interview With Aaron Thompson, Shely Lowe

This is part one of a transcript of the EXCLUSIVE 7NEWS interview with Aaron Thompson and Shely Lowe on Dec. 1, 2005. Any excerpt taken from this interview MUST credit 7NEWS-KMGH-TV and TheDenverChannel.com.

Tony Kovaleski, 7NEWS Investigator: Sam, the first question I have to ask. Aaron and Shely, why are you here today?

Sam Riddle, Family Spokesman Well the reason we're here is real simple. And that is, there was some misinformation that was put out. You know, Shely just got out of the hospital today. This afternoon at 1:30. She was getting out of the hospital at the same time as my plane was landing at DIA. And I received a frantic call from Jesse Cloman, Aaron's stepfather, who said that there was a warrant that had been issued and would I accompany them, would I accompany Shely and Aaron, to the police station? He realized then that I was in Denver.

Kovaleski: A warrant for their arrest?

Riddle: Yeah, supposedly. And that word had come to them from one of their lawyers. It turns out it was misinformation. Because the other part of the misinformation was basically, one of the attorneys had told them, 'Basically, you're on your own. Take yourselves to the police station. Turn yourselves in and ask for a public defender. I don't know what kind of attorneys those folks are. Even though I must confess to having set up the initial meeting between one of them and Aaron and Shely. To say that I'm disappointed is a complete understatement. The language I'd like to use we can't use on this family station. But the point is, is that here's a woman who has just been released from the hospital after giving birth. Going through the trauma not only of birth but the trauma of having another child taken by the state of Colorado and placed in protective custody, the uncertainty of when they'll have a place to live again hangs over their heads. They're literally have been shuttling from place to place, in terms of having shelter. The reality of having to deal with the presumption of guilt. That's what we got here. This couple has already been tried and convicted in the court of public opinion by the mis-administration of justice and the way information is being disseminated. It's almost as if people are attempting to lynch them in the media. And that's wrong and that's one of the reasons that I'm standing and sitting with them. Because it's just so wrong that I think they just need a fairer ground upon which to operate, if you will. We miss... we want to know where Aarone is.

Aaron Thompson: That's right.

Riddle: That's what the focus should be. Where is Aarone? It doesn't matter if Shely supposedly has character flaws that they want to bring up when they find paperwork in the house that actually belong to a guy that fathered two of your children?

Shely Lowe: Uh huh.

Kovaleski: You're talking about fake IDs? The fake driver's licenses?

Riddle: They belong to some else who's in jail. Who's incarcerated and who has some very serious personal issues of almost a criminal nature. Of a pedophile nature even, that resulted in Shely removing her children from this jerk. OK? And that paperwork belonged to that guy not Shely.

Kovaleski: Shely, how are you doing? You look pretty upset.

Lowe: I am. I a.m. I don't really know what to say because everything we've tried to do to speak up for ourselves, to defend ourselves, has been all turned around. And it just doesn't benefit us to even open our mouths. Don't know what to say.

Kovaleski: Here's a chance to defend yourself. It's the question everybody wants to know. And look right into that camera. Are you responsible for Aarone's death or disappearance?

Lowe: No.

Thompson: No, she's not. Neither am I

Kovaleski: Aaron, did you kill your daughter?

Thompson: No, I did not. I'm still looking for my daughter.

Lowe: And we were hoping everybody else was still looking for her, helping us.

Thompson: My parents are still looking for daughter. My family is still looking for my daughter. If they got an investigation against me, OK. Why stop looking for my daughter?

Lowe: Exactly. Don't give up on her because you're suspicious of us.

Kovaleski: So, if I'm hearing correctly. You're tired of hearing that you did it.

Thompson: Exactly.

Lowe: We are tired of hearing that we did it and we're also tired of hearing of the fact they are not looking for her. They are doing nothing. Her grandparents were out putting up fliers and they went back over stores. They were told they had to take them down. Don't allow the fliers to be put up of Aarone. Why?

Kovaleski: So let's get the story because its changed a few times in the public realm. You know what you said. What happened on Nov. 14?

Riddle: You know, I think one of the things you're going to have to deal with here and that is that on November 14, that's the day that Aarone was reported missing...

Kovaleski: That's when Aaron reported her missing.
