Police say Luis Lopez-Gamez rented a motel room where a kidnapping victim was held.

Motel Registration Gave Police Early Break In Case

One of the men suspected of kidnapping a Colorado Springs man for an $80,000 ransom rented a motel room where the kidnap victim was held under his own name, a court affidavit revealed.

The affidavit contains details of the case against four men accused in the kidnapping of Carolos Ornelas, 29, last Friday.

According to the affidavit, Ornelas was abducted on his way home from work Friday and taken to a motel in Colorado Springs, where he was held until his brother paid an $80,000 ransom the next day.

Police checked the motel and found the room where Ornelas said he was held was registered by a man they had arrested following the ransom exchange.

Investigators arrested Luis Lopez-Gamez, 21, Saturday as he walked in the neighborhood where a pickup had been abandoned shortly after the $80,000 ransom was paid.

Lopez-Gamez, a Mexican citizen, was questioned by police through a translator. He said that his brother, Fredy Cesary Lopez- Gamez, and two other men he knew only as "Tony and Brad" were involved in the abduction, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police said the abandoned pickup was registered to Bradley Michael Hanes. Lopez-Gamez then identified mugshots of Hanes and his brother, Anthony Michael Hanes, according to the affidavit

Police arrested the two brothers at a mobile home park on Sunday. All three were being held under $250,000 bonds.

A portion of the ransom money has been recovered but police won't say how much it is.

Investigators are still looking for Fredy Cesary Lopez- Gamez. According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, he was arrested in 2003 after taking his estranged wife, who had a restraining order against him, to a secluded parking area and threatening her if she did not agree to drop domestic violence charges against him.
