Officials Warn About Deceptive Police Donation Telemarketers

Douglas County Agency Does Not Endorse Phone Solicitations

Telemarketing agencies that claim to support law enforcement in Douglas County are using deceptive, high-pressure tactics to get residents to donate money, county officials said.

Most of the money that is collected by these agencies is actually kept by the telemarketers, officials said.

Each law enforcement agency in Colorado has its own support agency, but none of the agencies in Douglas County use telephone solicitations to collect money, officials said.

Residents should know that telemarketers may make deceptive statements claiming that their organization supports local law enforcement, officials said.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office receives support from the County Sheriff's of Colorado, a tax-exempt organization that does not endorse telephone solicitations.
