Skier Begins Serving Sentence For Fatal Collision

Former Vail Lift Operator Had Been Free While Appealing Verdict

A skier appealing a felony negligent homicide verdict in a deadly accident on the slopes of Vail, Colo., has voluntarily begun serving a 90-day jail sentence.

Nathan Hall

Nathan Hall, 22 (pictured, right), was sentenced in January for the fatal crash that killed Alan Cobb, 33. Hall was released on bond while his lawyer appealed the sentence.

But Hall's lawyer, Brett Heckman, said that his client decided to voluntarily begin serving the 90 days in jail after seeing how upset Cobb's fiancee was during a recent television interview.

"Our hope is that this will go some way in satisfying the victims," Heckman said.

Fiancee Christi Neville and Cobb's family, expressed outrage when Heckman announced immediately after the January sentencing hearing that he would appeal his client's conviction. Heckman is appealing the conviction on grounds the judge should have given the jury the option of convicting Hall of reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.

Hall is serving his sentence in the Eagle County Jail, in Eagle.
