DENVER -- A former teacher and basketball coach at a Catholic high school in Denver pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexually assaulting a female player.

Craig DeBaise, 43, had been charged with seven counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and was accused of sexually assaulting two female players at Machebeuf High School, but reached a plea bargain with prosecutors.

DeBaise, instead, pleaded guilty to only one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Prosecutors accused DeBiase of having sex with a 16-year-old girl on a summer basketball team multiple times in 1999. They also said he had sex with a 17-year-old girl in 2000.

DeBaise will be sentence on Dec. 20 and faces two years to life in prison, but also could be put on probation as part of his sentence.
