Air Force Cadet Accused Of Groping Fellow Cadet

Occenad Also Charged With Cocaine Use

Military prosecutors have charged an Air Force Academy cadet with sexually assaulting another cadet, the school said Thursday.

Ronald D. Occenad is accused of groping and kissing the other cadet and using indecent language in mid-May. The alleged victim was not identified.

Occenad, a junior, also faces a charge of wrongful use of cocaine. His home town was not released.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.

The charges came two years after a sexual assault scandal at the academy led to the replacement of the school's leadership and a number of new policies, brought to light by 7NEWS. Dozens of female cadets told 7NEWS Investigators that they were punished or forced to resign after reporting they were sexually assaulted.

A separate sexual assault case against an academy graduate is tied up legal wrangling. A rape charge against 1st Lt. Joseph Harding was put on hold indefinitely because a civilian rape counselor has refused attempts by Harding's lawyers to get records of her conversations with the alleged victim. Prosecutors said the alleged assault took place when Harding was a cadet.

A separate indecent assault charge against Harding was dismissed last month at the request of another alleged victim.

In June, academy senior Benjamin Kuster was given a written reprimand for committing an indecent act, one day after being acquitted on a rape charge.
