A body discovered in the trunk of a burning car in Aurora late last month is being identified as that of a 34-year-old man.

Aurora police say Alfonso Bernal was the person found in the vehicle after the fire had been put out.

An off-duty officer spotted the car at about 5:15 a.m. on Sept. 25, off of Smoky Hill Road and South Aurora Parkway. The vehicle was found in a ditch between a paved road and a dirt road.

Police wouldn't provide any more information about the case, which is still under investigation. Investigators also wouldn't say whether Bernal burned to death or was killed beforehand.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Aurora police at (303) 739-6090.
