Arrest Made After Teen Found Dead In Bed

Report: Alcohol Poisoning Suspected In Girl's Death

A 20-year-old Steamboat Springs man has been arrested for allegedly providing alcohol to a 17-year-old high school girl who was later found dead in her bed.

The Routt County liquor store that allegedly sold the man the alcohol was also cited, police said Tuesday.

Adel Dombrowski was found dead in her bed Saturday, the morning after she attended a football game and apparently drank the 1.75-liter bottle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum with friends.

Kevin Miller Neuwirth turned himself in to police and admitted that he purchased the liquor, the Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today newspaper reported Tuesday.

Neuwirth was arrested on charges of providing alcohol to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police also cited The Bottleneck liquor store for permitting the sale of alcohol to a person younger than 21. Neuwirth told police that he bought the bottle of rum Friday at the store and was not asked for identification, the newspaper reported.

The cause of Dombrowski's death has not been determined and the county coroner hoped to have autopsy results on Thursday. The school system issued a statement Monday that said there is "a suspicion that alcohol may have been involved."

County Coroner Rob Ryg said that teenagers who were drinking with Dombroski have been interviewed. The nearly-empty bottle of rum was also recovered, but Ryg wouldn't say where it was found.

The teens drank the alcohol on the way to a football game in Craig, Colo., 40 miles west of Steamboat.

Neuwirth was free on $5,000 bond Wednesday.

Dombroski was a popular high school senior who was active in hockey, tennis, volleyball, choir and a church youth group. Her funeral is set for Friday afternoon at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel.
