Drugs May Be Factor In Teen's Fatal Car Crash
State Troopers Say 18-Year-Old Made Illegal U-Turn On Highway 287

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- An 18-year-old driver made an illegal U-turn on Highway 287 Saturday afternoon, killing a Denver man and injuring four others in an crash authorities said may have involved drugs.Amber Maisel, of Littleton, was driving a Honda Civic with four passengers north on the highway about a half mile north of Ted's Place when she attempted a U-turn from the right lane, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Don Moseman said.A GMC traveling in the left northbound lane then broadsided the Honda, Moseman said.
Joseph Cochrane, 22, who was riding in the back seat of the Honda on the side that took the impact, was pronounced dead at Poudre Valley Hospital, Moseman said.The other four people in the Honda were still hospitalized at Poudre Valley Medical Center. The driver of the GMC, 63-year-old Vincent Saavedra, had only minor injuries, he said.Officials are investigating drugs as a possible factor in the crash, Moseman said.Saavedra was wearing a seat belt but it's not known if the teens in the Honda were strapped in. The other occupants were identified as Michael Lee, 19; Kelly Sprong, 18; and Daniel Lee, 16.
