Pit Bull Bites Neighbor, Dog

A 35-year-old Centennial man faces assault charges after he threatened his neighbor with a gun when his neighbor's pit bull attacked a woman and her dog in Arapahoe County.

Deputies say the pit bull escaped Saturday morning from a back yard in the 5100 block of South Netherland Way and then bit an Australian Shepherd that was walking by with its female owner.

The shepherd suffered a bite to its stomach and the female owner had a puncture wound to her finger.

The dog's owner, 31-year-old Tony Baker, was working on a vehicle parked in his driveway, and immediately tried to restrain his dog and separate it from the other dog and person.

Baker's neighbor heard the dog fight and went inside his home to grab a handgun. Shawn Boyd allegedly threatened to shoot the pit bull, named Cali, and Baker with a gun.

When Baker turned around to take his dog home, Boyd allegedly continued to kick Baker and jabbed him in the head with the pistol as he walked away.

Boyd was taken into custody and arrested for second-degree assault and felony menacing. He is being held at the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Detentions Facility on a $50,000 bond.

Baker was cited for harboring a vicious dog and allowing a dog to run at large. Baker said his friend had recently given him the dog because his friend was not able to keep the dog in Denver because of the city's recent ban on all pit bulls.

Cali was also impounded by Animal Control for the safety of the neighborhood.
