Feb. 22, 2001: Telemarketing Bill
This is a Denver's 7 Editorial by Cindy Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager of KMGH-TV. Denver's 7 Editorials tackle issues important to Colorado's working families.
It's about time somebody stands up to special interest groups and protects our right to privacy.
State Senator Ken Chlouber is taking the first step by sponsoring Senate Bill 93. It calls for limiting and eventually eliminating unwanted solicitation calls to your home. Except for calls from politicians and non-profit organizations.
Bills like this have been defeated in our legislature before because of pressure from special interests who talk about their freedom of speech, not our right to our privacy.
This bill is not perfect, but it is an important first step. And the costs go to the telemarketers... not to you!
Dnver's 7 calls on the legislature to pass this bill into law. We urge you to call your state representatives and voice your support to end those annoying calls.
That's our opinion. What's yours?
