Colorado Marine Dies In Iraq
Cathey's Wife Pregnant With First Child

BRIGHTON, Colo. -- A Colorado Marine who had been in Iraq only a month was killed Sunday by an explosive device while his unit was conducting security operations near Al Karmah.Second Lt. James Jeffrey Cathey, 24, of Brighton, Colo., was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division, according to a Marine spokesman in Camp Lejeune, N.C.Cathey was born and raised in Reno, Nev., and enlisted at age 17. His mother said Cathey had wanted to be a Marine since the fourth grade.
Cathey later moved to Colorado, graduating from the University of Colorado in 2004 with a degree in history and another in anthropology after only three years. He married Katherine a month later and the two moved to Brighton. She is four months pregnant with the first son and said the child will be named James Jeffrey Cathey Jr.He was deployed to Iraq on July 21.
