A forest fire was burning Thursday afternoon in Larimer County on Roosevelt National Forest property.

The North Bald Mountain Fire broke out Thursday afternoon near Red Feather Lakes in Larimer County.

The 15- to 20-acre fire was south of Crystal Lakes, to the east of North Bald Mountain. That location is southwest of Red Feather Lakes.

The blaze, dubbed the North Bald Mountain Fire, was making runs to the north, according to a release issued by Larimer County. The county said the fire had "potential" for problems as it was three miles from the nearest homes.

The fire was only about one mile away from a full campground, according to Airtracker 7 Pilot Rich Westra, who watched air tankers and a helicopter make drops on the fire.

Larimer County officials warned residents in the fire's path to stay on alert for possible changes in the fire that might affect them.
