The search for a missing 14-year-old boy resumed Tuesday morning in Pueblo.Andrew McDaniel went missing around 4:30 p.m. Monday on the city's new kayak course on the Arkansas River. He was halfway down the course with his 12-year-old brother and 9-year-old friend when their lightweight, inflatable raft hit some rocks in the river and blew up.One boy was pulled from the rapids by a kayaker. The other boy managed to make it to the river's edge on his own. Both boys were examined by appeared to be OK, said Pueblo Police Sgt. Eric Bravo.
None of the boys were wearing life jackets or helmets -- something that's required in the park.Rescuers searched for McDaniel for four hours Monday when the search was called off because of nightfall. Officials fear the boy may have drowned. "You can only survive a very short amount of time (in this water)," said assistant fire chief Dennis Rosolini of the 63 degree water flowing at about 1,600 cubic feet per second. "We're holding out hope, but there's not a real good chance, unfortunately."The kayak park opened last month and has drawn hundreds of visitors.Three people died over the weekend on Colorado's swollen rivers. A man fell into Clear Creek near Golden on Sunday. On Friday a river guide and a tourist from Texas died after their raft flipped over on a rugged portion of the Animas River.
