AURORA, Colo. -- The Aurora woman who allegedly was shot by her husband moments after police paid a visit to their home has died.Lorraine Johnson, 48, was found laying in the couple's front yard Sunday night. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office said Wednesday that she died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police had responded to a domestic disturbance call at the couple's South Ironton Street home at about 6:20 p.m. Officers left 40 minutes later when they believed the situation was under control. A police spokesman said the officers didn't have a lot of options because the couple didn't want to file charges. Eddie Johnson had told officers that he and his wife could resolve their conflicts.Then about 20 minutes later, shots rang out and Johnson was found in the couple's front yard. She was taken to the Medical Center of Aurora South, where she was pronounced dead Tuesday night.The woman's husband, Eddie Johnson, now faces first-degree murder charges. He also faces felony assault and first-degree assault charges.The couple's two adult daughters and two granddaughters lived with them but were not hurt, police said.They released a statement Wednesday morning saying, "We ask that everyone respect our privacy as today we mourn the death of our beloved mother and grandmother. We are declining all requests for media interviews. In keeping with her desire to help others, we have worked with The Donor Alliance to donate the gift of life to people awaiting organ and tissue transplants.""We are releasing this photograph of our mother so that everyone can remember her as the lovely person she was and how much joy she brought to all of us," the family said.Eddie Johnson was retired from the military and worked security at Buckley Air Force Base. Lorraine Johnson worked at a Saturn dealership.Eddie Johnson has a criminal history that showed a previous arrest September 2003, on misdemeanor domestic assault and battery charges. His wife was listed as the victim in that case.Eddie Johnson remains in custody at the Aurora Municipal Detention Center. Because this is a domestic violence case, no bond is permitted.Additional Info:
