Numerous Gnomes Nabbed

Greeley Woman Wants Gnomes Home

A nefarious gnome-napper has nearly wiped out a Weld County woman's beloved yard collection.

Elsie Schnorr says someone is stealing her front yard gnomes.

Some 30 gnomes belonging to Elsie Schnorr's are gone. Now all she front lawn is wiped clean of creatures and all she has left are pictures.

Someone ignored Schnorr's warning about "no trespassing" and took off with nearly all her gnomes within a span of a week.

"A week ago (Tuesday) they got 16 of them and then a week ago Thursday they came and got the rest," Schnorr said.

Now she only has just two gnomes left and the 72-year-old Greeley resident is fuming. She believes the thieves are trying to taunt her because not only did they hit her house twice but the second time, they took out the flowers in one gnome's vase and lined them up along her driveway.

She also thinks that she's the victim of a serial gnome-napper.

"I've talked to other people around town who have had their gnomes stolen, too," Schnorr told the Greeley Tribune.

Although she takes solace that her plastic dwarves aren't lonely anymore -- they all must be together somewhere -- she thinks the culprit will eventually sell them off at a yard sale or flea market. They're valued at $20-$30 each.

The trolls were taken between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. just outside Greeley and Evans in Weld County near 35th Avenue and 37th Street.

If you have seen Schnorr's little people -- they range in size from 3 inches to 12 inches tall and were all wearing red hats -- you are asked to contact the Weld County Sheriff's Department at (970) 356-4015.
