DENVER -- Denver has decided to provide immigration officials with a weekly list of all foreign-born inmates held in city jails.Denver Safety Manager Al LaCabe said the city changed the reporting system so the information is provided to the U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement agency on a more regular basis.Immigration officials always had access to the information -- but officials had to request the names of the foreign inmates.
LaCabe said the bottom line is that city officials are trying to do better assist immigration officials by prioritizing which inmates should be investigated. The policy was scrutinized after the death of Denver police Detective Donald Young, who was allegedly shot by an illegal immigrant who had previously been stopped by Denver police three times for traffic violations. The search for Raul Garcia-Gomez continues, although not as intensely as it once did. If you have information about his whereabouts call CrimeStoppers at (720) 913-STOP or (720) 913-7867. There is a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Garcia-Gomez.
