Ecstasy Case Arrest Expected

Teen Out Of Coma After Drug Reaction

Boulder police are expected to charge at least one teenage boy from Highlands Ranch, Colo., with selling ecstasy or a similar drug related to the hospitalization of a 15-year-old female friend over the weekend. The 15-year-old girl remained hospitalized Monday after taking ecstasy at a weekend "rave" party, authorities said. The girl had previously taken the drug without experiencing a medical reaction, and she ingested three pills at a party on Friday night, doctors at Littleton Adventist Hospital (pictured, left) said. The girl had been in a medically-induced coma Saturday, but came out of the coma Sunday and was listed in stable condition Monday, authorities said. Ecstasy Pill
MORE ABOUT ECSTASY
"We believe she's suffering a reaction from ecstasy or some other drug," said Cpl. Michael Rollin of the Douglas County sheriff's office. The girl may have been among three carloads of teenagers from Highlands Ranch that went to a party in Boulder. The 15-year-old boy may have procured the drugs at the party, said George Epp, Boulder County Sheriff. Rollin said he couldn't remember another ecstasy-related case involving a teen in Douglas County. But the incident came less than two weeks after a teen slipped into a coma from taking ecstasy at her 16th birthday party at her mother's house in Superior. Brittney Chambers died Feb. 2 after life support was removed. The Boulder County coroner ruled that her death was caused by ingestion of ecstasy, which led to water intoxication because she consumed so much water. Ecstasy was originally made under strict laboratory conditions and was used to fight maladies such as depression and paranoia. It was banned by the Drug Enforcement Administration in 1995 and has been manufactured in clandestine labs since then. Previous Stories:
