Lab Tests Show Fatal Ecstasy Pill Untainted

Juvenile Suspects Due In Court Today

Tests indicate the ecstasy pill taken by a teen shortly before she slipped into a coma was not tainted with any other drug, authorities said Thursday.

Brittney Chambers (pictured, left), took the pill on her 16th birthday party Jan. 28 and died after she was taken off life support several days later.

Laboratory tests released Thursday showed that a pill from the same batch as the one Chambers took was the drug ecstasy and that it contained no other chemical compounds or contaminates, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said.

Chambers was violently ill and convulsing before she slipped into a coma. Investigators wanted to know whether the pill she took was laced with another drug.

Sheriff George Epp said that the pill tested came from a batch owned by 20-year-old Travis Schuerger. Schuerger, 20, and 18-year-old Rebecca Sheffield, who allegedly supplied the drug to friends of Chambers, were formally charged on Thursday.

Four other juveniles in the case are scheduled to appear in Boulder court Friday.
