HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- A registered sex offender, classified as sexually violent predator, may move from a Highlands Ranch home because he says he is being harassed.Michael Christopher Carroll said he and homeowner Jerry Andrews have been the focus of increased police patrols in the neighborhood, several public meetings, and an Internet chat site that keeps track of everything they do.
Before moving to Colorado, Carroll served about 10 years in Florida for for soliciting boys for sex. Carroll told 7NEWS he understands people's concern but he wants a chance to move on with his life and to prove to people that they don't have to be afraid.Andrews also has a criminal record that includes credit card fraud, intimidation of a witness and aggravated battery. He met Carroll in Florida while the two were serving time.Neighbors are so upset about the two that they are considering trying to buy the $375,000 home that the two live in, along with Andrews' wife. Some neighbors met Tuesday night to discuss that possibility.Andrews said he would consider the offer to buy, if it were reasonable. The trouble began when Carroll moved into the home at the invitation of Andrews, but was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. He served two months in Florida before returning to the Highlands Ranch home."I'm really surprised that they would allow him to live, first of all, in an area so close to schools, and second, in an area so full of kids. He had a lot of choices, I don't know why he had to come here," said parent Kelly Donlan at a community meeting last month.Andrews told the Rocky Mountain News that the neighbors act like they are concerned with Carroll living in the neighborhood, but the real issue is their jealousy over his attractive young wife.Carroll and Andrews can legally live together because neither is on parole.
