I-70 Rockslide Blamed For Multiple Accidents
Civilian, Trooper, Deputy Injured In Crashes

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A small rockslide caused several accidents on Interstate 70 in Idaho Springs early Saturday morning.At 2 a.m., a motorist driving east in a Dodge Durango swerved to avoid the rocks, went into the median and rolled over. The vehicle came to rest in the westbound lanes of the interstate.A Colorado state trooper and Clear Creek County deputy were dispatched to the accident, but the initial report of the accident didn't indicate the vehicle had rolled into the oncoming traffic lane.
The trooper was in the lead and swerved to avoid the overturned Durango when his vehicle was struck by a westbound truck. The deputy then stopped to assist the trooper and his vehicle was hit from behind while he was exiting his vehicle.Both officers and the driver of the Durango were taken to taken to Lutheran Medical Center. The trooper was treated and released, but the deputy and the Durango driver were admitted.None of the people involved were identified.
