BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Authorities said Tuesday that they have identified the man suspected in a series of bank robbers, who earned the nickname "counter jumper."Broomfield police detectives, working in conjunction with agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said they positively identified Michael Lee Lauer, 22, in connection with four armed bank robberies in the Denver metro area.
One of the banks Lauer is suspected of robbing is the Commercial Federal Bank in Broomfield, on Feb. 9. The robber earned his nickname by his habit of jumping over counters during holdups.Agents executed a search warrant at Lauer's northwest Denver home late Monday afternoon, but found no one there.Authorities are asking for help in locating Lauer, who may be driving a red 1992 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer with Colorado license plate 918HMA.Police said that Lauer has numerous tattoos, including tattoos on both of his arms and a dragon design tattoo across his chest, abdomen and shoulder. It is believed that Lauer recently dyed his hair blonde and that he may have an additional black flame-shaped tattoo that extends along his neck on one, or both, sides. The FBI said that Lauer has brandished weapons during the commission of several of the robberies and should be considered armed and dangerous.Anyone with information on Lauer's whereabouts is asked to call Detective Bruce Fitzgerald of the Broomfield Police Department, at (303) 438-6455, or call their local FBI office.
