Attack Is Third Such Case In Past Week

Police in Denver are searching for a burglar who broke into a home and sexually assaulted at least two people Monday evening. The attacks occurred in the same neighborhood where two other sexual assaults occurred last week, police said.

The latest home invasion occurred at about 8:20 p.m. at a large two-story brick home near Denver's Botanic Gardens, near the intersection of Vine Street and Eighth Avenue, police said.

The attacks have caused such alarm in the neighborhood that even Police Chief Gerry Whitman was at the scene Monday night, which is a bit unusual for a sexual assault case, 7NEWS reported.

The man police are looking for is described as white, in his 30s, with short brown hair, a scraggly beard and sideburns. He wears thin, brown-rimmed glasses and was last seen in a black sweatshirt with a silver sword on the back.

Three victims were taken to St. Anthony Central. It is not known if all three victims were sexually assaulted. Their conditions have not been released.

Police don't believe the three cases are related but are still investigating.

On Sunday, residents in that neighborhood got together to swap phone numbers and pledge to watch out for each other after the first two assaults were reported Friday evening.

If you see the man described, you are asked not to contact him because he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867).
