Detectives Don't Think Attacks Are Related

Residents in a Denver neighborhood are banding together after two recent sexual assaults.

Police released this sketch of one sexual assault suspect.

Those who live near the 1100 block of Adams Street -- the scene of Friday's first attack -- got together Sunday to swap phone numbers and pledge to watch out for each other.

Friday's second assault occurred a couple of hours later when a woman said she was attacked inside her pet store near Sixth and Clarkson.

Denver police have released a composite drawing of the suspect in the Adams Street assault, described as a Hispanic man in his 30s with light to medium skin tone, brown eyes and dark hair styled in a crew cut. He's about 6 feet tall and weighs 165 to 175 pounds, police said.

The man was armed with a knife when he entered the victim's home through an open door, police said. While inside the home, he sexually assaulted the victim and fled the scene on foot. He was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket with numerous pockets and blue jeans.

The man in the second sexual assault, at the pet store, was described as white, in his 40s, with a goatee, salt and pepper hair, medium height and medium build. He was wearing glasses, green khakis pants and a black shirt with dragons on the front pockets.

Denver police investigators say they don't think the two attacks are related.

If you have any information regarding these assaults, you are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867).

Police also remind residents to keep doors locked and curtains closed. As the weather gets warmer, officers warned residents to resist the urge to leave windows and doors open. When walking alone, remember to keep your hands free and be aware of where you are and your surroundings at all times. If working in a business, all windows should be exposed so that you are clearly visible inside.
