A double-murder suspect will remain in custody after the judge refused to issue bond.

Damian Michael Arguello is being held on charges of first-degree murder.

Damian Arguello, 27, appeared in an Adams County courtroom for the first time Tuesday, accused with first-degree murder for the stabbing deaths of his wife and toddler son.

According to the arrest affidavit, Arguello told police he had been smoking crack cocaine the evening of Jan. 18 and while watching a movie with his wife, he got into an argument with her. He told investigators he choked Crystal Arguello and stabbed both her and their 16-month-old son, Rayven Arguello.

The bodies of the young mother and the boy were found in a bedroom by a neighbor who had been alerted to the situation by the couple's two other children.

The neighbor told police that the couple's 5-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl ran to his house that evening and said that their parents were fighting.

Arguello was arrested during a traffic stop nearly two hours after the neighbor called 911. The officer saw that Arguello had several fresh scratches on the left side of his neck and face and what appeared to be dried blood on one of his hands.

Crystal Arguello was studying to be a nurse.

Arguello's next court appearance is in March for a preliminary hearing.

The couple had moved into their Aurora home, located in the 2500 block of North Altura Boulevard, only four months ago. Relatives said Crystal Arguello came to Colorado to attend nursing school.
