DENVER -- Another Air Force Academy cadet has been charged with raping a classmate.Senior Cadet Benjamin Kuster may be court-martialed on a rape charge stemming from a drunken field trip this year involving the AFA scuba diving club to New Mexico. In addition, lesser charges may be filed against other cadets and the Air Force officer who chaperoned the trip last May.Air Force commanders are still investigating, but spokeswoman Capt. Kim Melchor said that the woman who said she was raped also admitted her recollection of the event was clouded because she consumed more than a fifth of rum.
Alcohol is forbidden on academy-sponsored trips, she said.As a result of the investigation, the scuba diving club was disbanded -- the second in the past year over alcohol incidents. The other Academy group was for hockey enthusiasts.
