The cheerleader was with a panel of people flown to the school as part of Red Ribbon Week to talk to the students about staying drug-free. The group included an agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, a member of the Nuggets basketball team, and a member of the Rapids soccer team.

After the group talked, dozens of students rushed to the cheerleader to get her autograph and she was shoved to the ground, Principal Miguel Salazar said.

Salazar said he ran to her side and helped her out of the crowd. The cheerleader was visibly shaken and told him that she had been innapproprately touched, Salazar said.

She and the others were then flown out by way of a Colorado National Guard helicopter.

"We are aware of the incident at Kunsmiller Middle School and after talking to the member of our cheerleading squad, we are happy to report that she's recuperating. We understand that the school is taking corrective steps in the matter," said the Colorado Rapids, in a press release.

The principal said he is taking the matter seriously and is conducting an investigation, interviewing students and trying to find out what happened from their persective. Salazar said he still has not determined whether the touching was an accident or if it was intentional. If he finds the student or students responsible, they could face several forms of school discipline, ranging from detention, suspension or even expulsion.

Red Ribbon Week has been running at Kunsmiller for several years and Salazar said this is the first incident of its kind.
