Standley Lake Student Reports Instant Messenger Threat

DENVER -- A 14-year-old student at Jefferson Academy student was arrested Tuesday in connection with death threats sent by America Online Instant Messaging to a 14-year-old student at Standley Lake High School.Police were told Monday that a 9th-grade student received a threatening message by IM while she was logged on the Internet at home.The student told police message said, "you are on my to kill list girl, u and the whole (expletive) school watch out."
The female student went to school and contacted a staff member to report the threat. Police were called and security was heightened at Standley Lake High Tuesday, although school activities and classes were not affected.Westminster police obtained a warrant to allow AOL to release customer records connected with the Instant Messenger name that appeared on the threat. Police said records identified the account holder as a teenager who lives in Arvada, Colo.Police contacted the youth and arrested him on misdemeanor charges of harassment and interference with staff, faculty or students of an educations institution. The boy was released to the custody of his parents after being suspended from school.The computer used to make the threat was confiscated, police said. Police cautioned students against making violence threats against schools, even in jest.
