Kavanaugh Gets Jail Sentence, Must Leave Home

A Larimer County school board member who had 2,500 images and 61 videos of child pornography in his home must spend 45 days in jail and 14 years on probation, after being sentenced Thursday.Christopher Kavanaugh, a former board member of Liberty Common School in Fort Collins, was also told he could not have contact with any children under age 18 -- including his own -- until the probation department allows it. That means Kavanaugh will have to move out of his own home.Kavanaugh must also register as a sex offender and go through a sex-offender program, which involves treatment and extensive supervision.
During a previous interview with a Fort Collins detective, Kavanaugh admitted to having a "morbid curiosity" with unclothed young females, according to the Fort Collins Coloradan.He was arrested in April after police executed a search warrant and found child pornography in his home. The investigation began when Texas authorities contacted Fort Collins police after Kavanaugh e-mailed five images to an undercover Texas investigator.He pleaded guilty in July to one felony count and one misdemeanor count of possession of sexually exploitative material involving a child. As part of the plea agreement, additional charges against Kavanaugh were dropped.Liberty is a charter school in Fort Collins, Colo., operating in the Poudre School District.
