Kobe Bryant Police Interview Leaked To Media

NBA Star Gives His Version Of What Happened At Colorado Resort

A purported transcript and audio recording of Kobe Bryant's police interview has been leaked to the media, 7NEWS reported Thursday.

A sexually-graphic 57-page transcript of the interview and compact disc recording were mailed to the Vail Daily News. The transcript and CD were in a brown envelope, with no return address, bearing a Denver postmark, the newspaper reported. It was not immediately clear if copies were mailed to other media, or who mailed it.

The original police recording was ordered sealed from the public earlier after Bryant's lawyers got a temporary restraining order that prohibited its release.

The recording begins the night after the alleged sexual assault that Bryant was charged with in 2003. Prosecutors dropped the charge on Sept. 1, after the accuser said she could not go forward with testifying in the trial.

During the 2003 police interview, Bryant expressed concern about his wife finding out and said his career and endorsements were on the line. He told the detectives he didn't care about the woman's accusations, but did care if his wife found out, according to the version released by the News.

Bryant was staying at the Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Edwards, Colo., at the end of June 2003 when a 19-year-old employee reported that Bryant raped her in his room. Bryant had been staying at the lodge after knee surgery.

According to the transcript released by the News, Bryant at first denied that he had sex with the woman, but later changed his story after detectives told him they had collected semen samples from her.

Bryant expressed shock that the woman said she was sexually assaulted and told detectives that the sex was consensual, according to the transcript released by the newspaper.

"She must want money or something. It has to be that, because you guys (inaudible) because I’m telling you man, I swear on my life, I did not, I did not sexually assault her in no kind of way whatsoever man," Bryant is reportedly heard saying on the recording.

Bryant told detectives that he stopped having intercourse with the woman after he asked if he could perform another sex act on her, and she said no.

Bryant's attorneys denied a previously published report that he said, "That's my thing. That's what I like to do." A portion of the edited published transcript makes it appear that Bryant was talking about the sex act that the woman refused while bent over.

Bryant: "Yes. That’s when she said no. That’s when she said no. That’s when she said, no.'"
Detective Dan Loya: "So what did, what did you say?"
Detective Doug Winters: "What did you say, how did that, how did that come about?"
Bryant: "Um, you know, that’s when I asked if I could ..., she said no."
Detective Loya: "So you like to ... ?"
Bryant: "That’s my thing, not always, I mean, so I stopped."

Later, Bryant said, "It was consensual, there was nothing weird you know what I mean?"

The NBA star pointed out the chair that was used and explained how the accuser ended up there.

Bryant: "We just started kissing I asked her -- I said you know, (inaudible) she bent over, and she walked over on her own free will. She was standing right here, right here we’re kissing and she, she put her foot up here all by herself."

Detectives asked Bryant to go over the series of events several times and, at one point, said they understood how it may have started.

Detective Winters: "I look at it this way, she’s an attractive young lady, OK."
Bryant: "She wasn’t that attractive."

Later, Bryant admitted he wasn't even sure what the accuser's name was.

In questioning Bryant, detectives learned that he had a 5-month-old daughter.

Detective Loya: "Imagine your daughter being 19 and she comes home and tells you this. How would you react?"
Bryant: "I know, I’d be very pissed."
