A 2-year-old Aurora, Colo., girl is recovering from a pit bull attack, and authorities said Tuesday that the dog's owner has previous animal control violations with the city. The girl, who was not identified because of her age, was attacked in the front yard of a neighbor's home in the 19000 block of East 16th Place on Monday as she was playing with another child. Animal control officers said the dog escaped from the house through a screen door. The girl suffered bites, punctures and lacerations to her head, neck, chest, stomach and back and was undergoing treatment at Children's Hospital. Her official condition was not released.
Investigators said a neighbor reported that the same dog bit a FedEx delivery man several weeks ago. Records revealed the dog's owner, Courtney Chunn, was issued a summons on Aug. 14 for keeping a vicious animal, and failure to obtain a rabies vaccination, city pet license and animal permit.New charges of keeping a vicious dog, running at large, and failure to obtain a city pet license and permit were filed against Chunn and the dog's other owner, Iris Moore, as a result of Monday's attack.Chunn was in court Tuesday on the previous charges and entered a guilty plea. She also surrendered the dog to animal control so that it could be destroyed.Chunn and Moore will be arraigned on the new charges on Sept. 24.
