A girl who was critically injured while "car surfing" in Fort Collins, Colo., was identified Thursday as a 14-year-old Cheyenne, Wyo., resident. The family identified her as Shailynne Manning and said she failed to return home Monday night following an outing with some new friends. Before hearing from Manning's family, police said they received more than 100 tips on her identity after releasing a composite sketch.Witnesses said the woman was "car surfing" when she fell off the top of a moving car and hit her head on the pavement.
The accident happened Monday at about 6:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Smith Street in Fort Collins.Manning was found in the street bleeding, unconscious and barely breathing. She remained in Poudre Valley Hospital on Thursday, but authorities didn't know who she was initially because she carried no identification. In the initial request for help identifying her, police listed her probable age as between 18 and 20 years of age. Witnesses also incorrectly identified the vehicle she fell from as a Buick LeSabre.Police continue their search for two females who were with Manning and said Thursday that the car they were driving was reported stolen in Cheyenne on Aug. 27. The light green 2004 Buick Century with Wyoming license plate 2-MARK had been spotted several times in Fort Collins around the time of the accident. Police earlier issued an alert for the car, but incorrectly identified the model as a Buick Sentry.Police asked that anyone who sees the car to contact them at (970) 221-6540.
