DENVER -- Mike Nelson, Colorado's most trusted meteorologist, returned to the airwaves on Monday with a new home -- Denver's 7.
"We are thrilled to have Mike Nelson on our air," said Denver's 7 Vice President and General Manager Darrell Brown. "It's not often you have the opportunity to have a meteorologist with Mike's knowledge and experience join your news team. Mike's been very busy these past few months working on building our weather team and is excited to get back on the air."
Mike may be new to Denver's 7 but he's extremely familiar with weather patterns along the Front Range and in the high country. Mike has worked in Colorado since 1991 and in that time has earned numerous Emmy awards for Outstanding Weather Anchor.Mike is passionate about weather and in providing the most accurate forecast of Colorado's capricious climate. With his move to Denver's 7, he has launched our new 24/7 Weather format, where he will have the opportunity to indulge in that passion."I am completely immersed in building the most exciting weather station I've ever been involved in," Mike said. "Our new 24/7 Weather Center is located right in the news studio, giving our meteorologists access to all of our weather technology while we are in the middle of a newscast -- no need to run in from outside to see what the radar shows. This state of the art Weather Center is filled with cutting-edge weather technology.""We're putting in place the most advanced forecasting technology for Mike and the team," said 7NEWS director Byron Grandy. "Our commitment to weather coverage will be the strongest in town."Besides obtaining local weather forecasts on 7NEWS during our newscasts and anytime there is a weather alert, you can also access 24-hour weather information through our Web site The Denver Channel.com, through the 24-hour Weather Line (303) 832-0247, and on Comcast NewsChannel 207 -- soon to be Channel 247.Mike can be seen on 7NEWS at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. 10 p.m. and anytime there is a big weather event. Mike has explained the science behind Colorado weather to tens of thousands of Colorado school children over the past 13 years. His grade-school presentations always include his famous "Tornado Dance," a fun and entertaining way to demonstrate Colorado's weather to children."One thing you can count on is that I will continue to go into local schools and teach kids about weather.
