Loveland Woman Attacked By Pit Bull

Loveland Officers Shoot Pit Bull

POSTED: 10:50 am MDT August 21, 2004

Loveland Police shot a pit bull after it attacked an elderly woman.

Around 5 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to a call of a dog attack in the 2000 block of S. County Road 21.

A witness told police that a 73 year-old neighbor and mother of the property owner realized three dogs were out of the yard and went to retrieve them. When she went outside the pit bull attacked her and bit her on the face, arms, and side and possibly other areas.

Upon arrival police fired two rounds at the dog as he was running from the area. The pit bull was found roughly two hours later with a gunshot wound and was taken by animal control officers.

The dog was actually owned by her daughter's friend, Travis Rickman, 20, who was staying on the property in a camper with the owner's permission.

The injured woman was expected to return home Friday evening.

Deputies will be presenting this case to the district attorney on Monday. Rickman will likely be charged with unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog.
