A burglar who enters homes while people are sleeping has broken into four Arvada homes and four Jefferson County homes in and around the Skyline Estates community since the beginning of August, authorities said Tuesday.Arvada police believe this is the same person who has hit homes in Arvada, Jefferson County, Westminster, Broomfield, and possibly unincorporated Boulder County over the past year. This person may be responsible for the 32 burglaries that have occurred in Arvada and Jefferson County since November of 2003, Arvada police and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said.In each of the cases, the burglar enters the homes through open windows or unlocked doors and leaves several minutes later, usually taking small items with him.
Because many people are leaving their windows and doors open at night to allow for cooler weather, this brazen burglar has seen many opportunities and many prime targets, Arvada police said.Residents in these areas, and especially those living in communities that border greenbelts or open space, are asked to call police immediately if they spot suspicious people in their neighborhood between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.Anyone with information concerning these crimes is urged to call the either the Arvada Police Department at (720) 898-6900 or the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at (303) 271-5630.
