The incident was reported around 2:30 p.m. inside a condominium complex in the 4800 block of DTC Boulevard.

The girl was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center, with injuries including dog bites to her head, neck and body.

As the girl was wheeled into the emergency entrance, an unidentified man looked at her and screamed, "Oh No!"

The dog ran outside and was cornered by neighbors and by police.

"The dog started to run. There was a police officer with his gun drawn, and the officer shot him, I believe three times," said an eyewitness.

A woman who was babysitting the little girl owned the dog, witnesses said. The woman was also taken to the hospital for observation. She told officers she just recently adopted the dog from the Denver Dumb Friends League.

The dog was believed to be a mixed breed.
