ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Englewood police ended their search for a possible sniper Friday after several teenagers came forward and admitted they were playing a prank, 7NEWS reported.A 32-year-old Westminster man said he was standing at the light rail station at 1000 Englewood Parkway just after midnight when he saw a red laser dot on his shirt and realized it might be a laser gun sight. He immediately yelled for others in the station to get down.
A second person also saw the red dot on Joseph Worth's shirt. Then Chris Thompson, 22, watched the red dot move from Worth to himself. He saw two flashes nearby that appeared to be gunshots.Police located witnesses in a nearby trailer park who said they heard two gunshots and saw someone running from the area at the time the laser dots were spotted by the RTD riders.Police shut down light rail service at the station after they were notified of the incident and a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit attempted to find the apparent gunman. Two male teens, aged 15 and 18, went to the police station Friday morning and admitted that they were playing with a laser pointer and electronic flashing device, 7NEWS reported. The devices are not illegal, but police confiscated them anyway.Police said that the investigation would continue, but it appeared that no laws were broken by the two teens."At this point we have to determine the intent. If they were genuinely trying to arouse anxiety or excite or terrorize anybody, then it would be chargeable offense," said Det. Perry Schellpfeffer. "The investigation is still continuing but it looks as though they were just out having fun."
