DENVER -- A baby found in a Dumpster late last week has died and the mother was being held on suspicion of first-degree murder. The baby died shortly after being removed from life-support equipment Monday night, police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez said. The mother, Griselle Suarez, 20, was in custody Tuesday. The baby had been hospitalized since being found Friday in an alley between the 4800 block of Beach Court and Bryant Street. Firefighters found the baby in a blanket in a box amid heaps of trash. The infant was unconscious, revived and rushed to St. Anthony Central Hospital.
Suarez was near where the baby was found and there was evidence that she had given birth, Lopez said.State law allows parents to abandon a newborn if the baby is left at a hospital or fire station. In a separate case, police have been unable to locate the mother of a newborn boy whose body was found Saturday stuffed in the trash can of the women's bathroom at a sports bar in Cherry Creek North.
