Real Estate Agent To Be Charged In Series Of Boulder Rapes

Wagner To Face Additional Lakewood Charge, Police Say

POSTED: 9:30 am MDT June 18, 2004

A Glenwood Springs, Colo., real estate agent suspected in a string of rapes was set to be formally charged Friday afternoon with four sex assaults in Boulder, Colo.

Bradford Thomas Wagner
Police said Bradford Thomas Wagner was responsible for rapes in Boulder, Lakewood and Austin, Texas.

Bradford Thomas Wagner, 36, was arrested a week ago after investigators said DNA matches led them to him.

The alleged assaults occurred between 1993 and 1998 in the Trantra and Bridgewalk apartment complexes. Wagner was living in the neighborhood at the time, according to police.

Boulder detectives said DNA also links Wagner to a 1994 sexual assault in Lakewood, Colo., and a 1995 sexual assault in Austin, Texas.

Lakewood police said they would file an arrest warrant affidavit Friday in connection with the Lakewood assault. Wagner lived a block away from the alleged 1994 crime, police said.

Other cities, including Denver and Glendale, are submitting additional DNA evidence on unsolved cases that match characteristics of the Boulder assaults.

Public records show that Wagner has an extensive arrest record in at least six states.

He was arrested in San Clemente, Calif., on suspicion of grand theft auto and receiving stolen goods in 1985 and in Panama City, Fla., in 1990 for investigation of burglary, according to records.

He was arrested for similar crimes in Jourdanton, Texas; Bismarck, N.D., and Jacksonville, N.C. He was arrested in Colorado for drunken driving in Arvada in 1992 and Steamboat Springs in 1997.

Wanger was born in Bismarck, N.D. Records show that in the past 17 years he has lived in Boulder; Austin, Texas; Denver; West Hollywood, Calif.; Steamboat Springs, Aspen and Glenwood Springs.

Wagner is being held in the Boulder County Jail on a $1 million bond.
