Jeffco Fire Ban Issued

Restrictions Take Effect Wednesday

POSTED: 5:02 pm MDT June 8, 2004

Jefferson County officials today announced that fire restrictions will be in place beginning tomorrow.

The restrictions cover all areas of unincorporated Jefferson County because of high fire dangers.

People who violate the restrictions face fines of up to $600.

The restrictions prohibit any outdoor fire or campfire -- except a fire within a permanent fire grate in a developed park, campground or picnic area.

The ban also prohibits smoking -- except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or in an area clear of combustible materials.

Fires contained within liquid fueled or gas fueled stoves, or charcoal grill fires at private residences are exempt from the ban.
