Ski Resorts' Old Employee Coats Clothe Needy In Albania

Local Freight Company Responsible For Delivering Jackets

Some Albanians probably never heard of some of the ski resorts in Colorado and Wyoming but they're benefiting from the resorts' generosity.

Old employee coats from area ski resorts were recently delivered to Albania, where the outfits were received with open arms and great big smiles.

"If we got rid of them here in the United States, they're not worth anything," said Gayle Dendinger, CEO of CAP Logistics, the freight company that made the delivery possible.

But take those same underappreciated used ski coats to Albania, where the need is high and winter temperatures are bitter cold, and they become priceless.

CAP Logistics employee Ledia Karst is from Albania and got to see firsthand just how much her homeland appreciated the donation.

"(It was) very emotional, a little bit chaotic," said Karst. "To tell you the truth, none of the people we delivered to took their coats off the entire time. It was so hot, they kept the coats on the whole time we stayed there."

Winter is only a few months away, which is why the 3,000, along with 50 much needed wheelchairs to help polio victims, were all hand delivered.

New ski equipment for the country's Olympic ski team also replaced gear that was 30 years old. These gifts changed many lives, including those of the volunteers giving them.

"We went to towns that I couldn't pronounce, talked to people and couldn't understand the language, and had more fun than I've ever had in my life," said Dendinger.

"We have so much and there's so much we can do and so much we can share with people who have so little," said Karst.

It took the hearts and helping hands of many Colorado businesses and organizations to make the Albanian trip happen. If you would like to learn more about it, contact the Colorado Business Roundtable at the Web site COBRT.org.
